Rug Care
We recommend routine care and cleaning to keep your rug looking like new for longer. Below we have provided a brief outline on how to clean and manage strains and spillages.
Generally, we recommend to vacuum your rug gently on a weekly basis to remove any surface dirt and dust. Avoid vacuuming tassels or fringes as this could cause permanent damage. Rotate your rug frequently to avoid any bleaching from prolonged sun exposer.
Shaggy Rugs:
When vacuuming shaggy pile rugs, we recommend using a small nozzle attachment on your vacuum to prevent damaging the pile.
Wool Rugs:
A common characteristic of wool rugs is shedding, where the fibers come away from the rug. This is a natural and common feature of wool rugs, not a manufacturing fault. Gentle, regular vacuuming will take care of this and ensure your wool rug will last longer. Extra care should be taken when looking after your wool rug, spillages should be cleaned immediately (see below) and avoid over wetting when cleaning.
Spillages and Stains:
1. Spillages should be attended to immediately. Use an absorbent clean cloth to soak up the liquid.
2. Apply lukewarm water to the area and blot (don’t rub) with a clean cloth until the stain is removed. Avoid over wetting of the area as this can cause permanent damage. This process may need to be repeated several times to remove the stain.
3. For solid stains such as chewing gum or wax, remove this first (as advised below) then proceed to step 2. A mild soap or detergent can be used to remove difficult stains, but this should be tested on an inconspicuous area of the rug first to access possible damage.
Stain Cleaning Treatment:
- Chewing gum: Freeze using ice, shatter gum, vacuum, warm water & detergent
- Wine: Talcum powder then warm water & detergent
- Alcohol: Warm water & detergent
- Most Makeup: Dry cleaning solvent then warm water & detergent
- Urine: Warm water & detergent then white vinegar & water
- Blood: Warm water & detergent
- Vomit: Warm water & detergent then dry-cleaning solvent
- Butter: Dry cleaning solvent then warm water & detergent
- Wax: Freeze using ice, shatter wax, vacuum, dry cleaning solvent then water & detergent
- Shoe Polish: Dry cleaning solvent then warm water & detergent
For persistent and difficult stains, seek professional cleaning.
Underlay/Rug Grip
We advise the use of an underlay/rug grip for the following reasons:-
SAFETY- No matter where the rug is placed (carpet, hardwood etc), a pad keeps the rug in place to prevent slips and pulls
LONGEVITY- Believe it or not, a pad extends the life of your rug by preventing the fibres from being crushed. The pad acts as a buffer between the hard surface below and the rug above.
PROTECTION- Very important! A pad prevents dye transfer, marring, staining and scratching to the floor or carpeting beneath.
COMFORT-A pad adds extra cushiony softness underfoot.
CLEANLINESS- A pad allows for easier vacuuming as it holds the rug in position.
We sell anti slip rug grip which is suitable for use on any floor i.e. carpets, tiles or wood. Anti-Slip rug grip is sold under the sub-category ‘Accessories’.
